Reach for the Stars Print this page
We celebrate Maths in National Literacy and Numeracy Week each year with "Reach for the Stars".
  • We have it on the school calendar at the beginning of each year.
  •
  • We display fliers as reminders as the time approaches so that it is a whole school planned celebration and everyone feels part of it.
  •
  • We form a small committee to help with initial planning.
  •
  • We plan part of the maths program for term 3 activities around the particular theme that is connected with Reach for the Stars.
  •
  • We plan a day during Literacy and Numeracy Week for a whole school celebration.
  •
  • We arrange whole school graphs or whole school simultaneous activities to display the results of our investigations.
  •
  • We contact the local Messenger newspaper to photograph and record our event.
  •
  • Classes work with buddy classes to support each other.
  •
  • We invite parents to share in the celebrations.
  •
  • Older students collect and collate and enter data on the computer.
  •
  • Students write articles for the school newsletter, highlighting data and interpreting data and stating trends and conclusions.
  •
  • Results are given out to each class to discuss with students as appropriate to developmental levels.
  •
  • Some classes implement further investigations based on the findings.
